Committed to Excellence: CALEA Accreditation
Because trust, professionalism, and accountability matter.
Why Accreditation Matters
The Kirkwood Police Department is proud to be nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA)—a gold standard in public safety. Accreditation isn’t required. We chose it because our community deserves the very best.
In 2019, our department first achieved CALEA Accreditation. In July 2023, we earned reaccreditation after completing a rigorous four-year review process. This voluntary program holds us to a set of proven, professional standards and includes independent assessments of how we operate every day—both remotely and in person.
What This Means for You
Being CALEA-accredited means we are:
✔ Meeting high standards for transparency and accountability
✔ Following best practices in public safety
✔ Committed to ongoing improvement and community engagement
✔ Reviewed by outside experts—not just internally
This is more than a badge. It’s a promise—to serve with integrity, to build trust, and to never stop improving.
Your Voice Matters
As part of the accreditation process, CALEA offers a Public Comment Portal where you can share feedback about our department’s services, community engagement, and professionalism. Whether it’s a commendation or a concern, your input supports our mission to keep getting better.

Please note: CALEA is not an investigatory body. This portal is not for filing complaints or emergency reports. While individual responses are not provided, all comments are reviewed and considered as part of the accreditation process.
