Architectural Review Board
- For information about an application on an upcoming or past agenda, go to the City's Meetings Calendar page to find the meeting date. Select the meeting and click "View Details." Each meeting will have an agenda and a meeting packet available.
- Architectural Review Board meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month (except holidays -- scheduled on adjoining Tuesday) at 7 pm. Complete application submittals are due by 5pm two weeks prior to the scheduled meeting. Click the Meetings and Contacts section below to access the schedule of meetings and deadlines.
- For projects that require architectural review, Architectural Review Board applications must be submitted through the online Kirkwood Public Portal. - Please note Stormwater/Engineering Review is no longer taking place at the ARB submittal stage. Stormwater/Engineering Review will only begin once a separate building permit has been submitted.
The Architectural Review Board (ARB) reviews applications and makes recommendations to the Building Commissioner, Planning & Zoning Commission, and City Council, depending on the nature of the case and how it is referred. It ensures proposed developments and signs are in harmony with the design character of the existing neighborhood, cohesive with the streetscape, and consistent with the neighborhood scale.

The Architectural Review Board meets on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month (except holidays -- scheduled on adjoining Tuesday) at 7 pm in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 139 S. Kirkwood Rd.

Once you've registered, you can click "Apply" and use the search bar to search for the relevant Architectural Review Board application for your project. Please make sure you select one of the following choices:
- "Architectural Review Board: Add/Alt/Detached Structure"
- For single-family additions, detached garages/sheds, solar panels, exterior alterations, and decks with over 8' clearance.
- "Architectural Review Board: New Single-Family"
- "Architectural Review Board: Sign"
- "Architectural Review Board: Commercial & Multifamily"
There are reference packets linked below for each project type that may be helpful. As you begin to fill out the application form details, there may be questions that require a response that are unrelated to your project or you may not know the answer. In this case, please enter "NA", "0", or "unknown" and continue filling out the rest of the application.

The Architectural Review Board reviews building plans for all new single-family residences, additions, accessory structures, and decks with over 8 feet of clearance. The ARB offers design suggestions to help residents and builders comply with City design guidelines. The required applications and guidelines are provided directly below.

The ARB reviews and approves all sign applications in the City. The ARB also reviews building applications for new construction, additions and renovations of building exteriors for non-residential and multi-family residential for compliance with development criteria.
