The Public Works Department implements the Capital Improvement Program, planning and overseeing the construction of streets and rebuilding infrastructure (bridges and concrete street replacement). The Street Division maintains the street system through a comprehensive street and bridge maintenance program.

The Public Works Department seeks to preserve the spirit of the community, maintain the City's residential heritage, and improve the quality of life for Kirkwood's citizens through:

  • Re-occupancy and Property Maintenance Inspections

  • Responsible Planning and Zoning

  • Street sign maintenance

  • Environmental stewardship

  • Improvement and maintenance of the street system

  • Leadership role in recycling and waste reduction

The Public Works Department works closely with Kirkwood citizens, citizen groups, and volunteer boards and commissions (Planning and Zoning, Board of Adjustment, Architectural Review Board, and Board of Building Appeals) to ensure quality development compatible with the City's heritage and appropriate to its image.
