  Landmarks Commission Minutes

Present:  Commissioners Dave Brown, Steve Emer, Pat Jones, David Meyers, Phyllis Ravensberg, and Staff Liaison Alan Lamberg.

1. Approval of minutes – none available.

2. Certificate of Appropriateness

a. Case 08-07 – 800 South Geyer Avenue, alterations to garage.  Mr. Dillender presented drawings of changes to the garage. His desire is to add a second story to the existing building with windows at each end and a dormer above the garage doors.  The siding is to match the siding on the restaurant.  COA approved with exceptions:  Windows in end gables to be rectangular.  Posts on overhang are to match posts on front porch of restaurant.  The awning on the car port is to match the existing awning.  Since no garage doors were submitted, the commission requests pictures of the selected doors before approval.

b. Continuance of Case 08-01 – 217 S Woodlawn Avenue, demolition of outbuilding.  No motion was made to extend the stay of demolition. 60-day period of review ends on April 28th in which owner may attain demolition permit. The Commission thanks the Shelly family for their considerations for preservation and patience during the period of review.

3Old Business. Favorite Building Awards - A motion was made by Commissioner Emers to add the newly constructed fence at 428 N Taylor Ave, Landmark#24, Kyle-Essex-Gamble House as an awarded item.  Category – Restoration of Historical Landscape Item.  Motion seconded and approved unanimously.

4. Design Guidelines development for Jefferson-Argonne.  Commissioner David Meyers is the executive of this subcommittee.  Various design guidelines were reviewed and an overall approach to the complexity of this district was established.  The various building types will be identified and then researched and written about by various commissioners.

5. Motion to adjourn.  Motion was made to adjourn by Comm. Meyers, seconded by Comm. Emer.  Approved unanimously.  Meeting adjourned 8:45 pm.
