Human Rights Commission
Advises the City Council on ways to: Promote awareness, recreation, employment, legislation, education, accessibility, and participation of and for minority groups, including persons with disabilities; remove any inequalities that pertain to minority groups and the disabled in such areas as housing, recreation, education, employment, law enforcement, services, and accessibility; encourage participation by minority groups and disabled persons in City programs. 2012 ESSAY CONTEST: The Kirkwood Human Rights Commission has announced its Human Rights Essay winners for 2012. The writing contest was open to high school students who were juniors in the 2011-2012 school year, attending Kirkwood, Vianney or Ursuline High Schools, and any other 11th grade Kirkwood resident. The essay topic this year was: "What is the single most important human rights issue facing your generation in Kirkwood today? How would you resolve it?"
This year's winners are: Meredith Bouchein (first place), Sarah Heuermann (second place), Emily Schwegmann (third place), and Eleanor Heinrich (honorable mention).
