Occupancy Permits

In the City of Kirkwood, an Occupancy Permit must be obtained before occupying any house, condominium, apartment, or commercial building. All occupied buildings must be inspected and approved for compliance before occupancy. This includes a new resident, tenant, or business. Occupancy Permits can be obtained at the Building Commissioners’ office, located in the lower level at Kirkwood City Hall, 139 S. Kirkwood Road.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What information is needed on the occupancy permit?

Residential:

  • Property address and mailing address, if different than property address
  • Applicant: Name and contact number
  • Other persons occupying the dwelling unit: Name and  relationship to applicant
  • Type of home occupation (if applicable): If the tenant is operating a business from the house

Commercial:

  • Property address and mailing address if different than property address
  • Type of business. Estimated number of employees.
  • Tenant: Business name, applicant name, home address,contact numbers, and e-mail
  • Owner/Manager/Agent: Name of company or property owner, property manager name, contact phone numbers

Can I send someone in to fill out the application for me?
Yes, as long as they have all of the required information.

How do I sign up for utilities?
For Kirkwood water, electric, and sanitation services, call the Finance department at 314-822-5843, or visit the Finance window at City Hall, 139 S. Kirkwood Road.
