CURBSIDE RECYCLING COMES TO KIRKWOOD
Single-stream, curbside recycling will be implemented beginning in January 2011. Residents will receive their curbside recycling receptacles in December of this year. More details will follow throughout 2010, but here are a few things that have already been determined.
No additional cost to residents is expected. The City will be divided into five sanitation districts, and each household will receive regular sanitation pick-up, yard waste pick-up, AND recycling pick-up one day per week, on the same day. Residents will receive a list of items that can be recycled. Mixed, single-stream recycling means you can throw all of your recyclable items into the same container. No sorting necessary.
Regular household waste will continue to be picked up in plastic bags. One roll of 50 bags will continue to be provided and delivered at no charge each year by the City, with additional bags available for purchase at Kirkwood City Hall. There will be no change in the requirement that residents place yard waste in paper bags purchased from the City or in tied bundles, with yard waste stickers attached.
A full set of updated sanitation guidelines, when available, will be posted here and will be provided to you with your utility bill later this year. Regular information about the launch of curbside recycling will be published in “Eye on Kirkwood,” “Kirkwood E-News,” and on this Website.
