Many citizens of Kirkwood are proud of the historic and
aesthetic qualities of their city. Anyone can inquire with the
commission what volunteer resources are needed to help with
historic preservation. The commission must approve any volunteer
work that is to be done on designated landmarks or local
historic districts. Suggestions and ideas are welcome. Please
contact the Landmark Commission staff to find out more
information.

Favorite
Building Awards Ceremony
The commission needs volunteers for the annual
Favorite Building Awards Ceremony, held in May. It's a fun event
where citizens and visitors of Kirkwood gather to celebrate the
buildings and their property owners who help shape the cultural
fabric of our historic and neighborhood-friendly community. Help
would be appreciated with the following:
- Work with the commission to gain working knowledge of
favorite types of buildings
- Photography of nominated properties
- Assist with event planning and location
- Hauling equipment such as chairs, PA system, projector
& screen, etc.
- Catering light refreshments
Please apply before May 1, 2007. This event will occur in May
2007 in Kirkwood.
Walking
Tours
Do you enjoy having perspective on historic
Kirkwood? Do you find yourself telling friends and family about
it? Do you like walking? Perhaps you can facilitate walking
tours in Kirkwood! The commission has procedures and brochures
detailing four sets of walking tours in historic Kirkwood, but
needs volunteers to show the area to interested citizens and
visitors. Walking tours for each route typically occur once a
season. Duties of a walking tour liaison would include:
- Work with the commission to gain working knowledge of the
tour areas
- Be the contact person for walking tour reservations
- Make an RSVP list of participants for tours
- Walk the tour with participants
Apply anytime.
Sears Houses
The commission is hoping to put together a
brochure to educate property owners on how to determine if they
have a Sears House. If you or some friends feel that you
wouldn't mind volunteering by helping with writing the brochure,
we would be grateful for the assistance. Duties include:
- Working with the commission to gain working knowledge of
Sears Houses
- Write guidelines to identify Sears Houses
- Work with Staff in formatting the brochure
Apply anytime.
