Hugh
Bissell:
2007 Greentree Festival Parade Grand Marshal
Kirkwood, Missouri -- Friday, August 10, 2007 --
We welcome the Honorary Grand Marshal to this year's Greentree
Festival Parade: Mr. Hugh Bissell. A long time fixture of the
festival, Hugh is the cog that makes the entire parade gets off
without a hitch. For the past 16 years Hugh, along with the help
of many Kirkwood Rotarians, has served the festival as the
parade’s “logistics coordinator.” The responsibilities mean
getting each one of the 100 plus floats and entries in position
and ready to go when the parade starts.
“On parade morning we arrive before daylight to start the
process,” Hugh reflected. “My greatest fear was the possibility
of oversleeping and there would be total chaos at the starting
point. Fortunately that did not happen but there were some
pretty chaotic times.
“I cannot thank enough all the Kirkwood Rotarians and others who
have helped me over the years. We have had a great team. It has
been fun and I am truly honored to be this year’s Grand
Marshal.”
As Grand Marshal of this year's parade, Hugh has turned over his
logistics coordinator responsibilities so he can go to the front
of the parade and take his much-deserved seat to kick off the
47th Annual Greentree Festival, a “Celebration of Heroes.” For
holding this position for so many years, Hugh is certainly a
hero.
