Release From The City
Kirkwood’s Greentree Park
Benefits from $5,000 Open
Space Council Grant
Kirkwood,
Missouri -- Thursday, July 05, 2007 –
Kirkwood’s
Greentree Park, located along Marshall Road, is the beneficiary
of a $5,000 grant from The Open Space Council. Missouri American
Water awarded the $5,000 environmental grant to the Open Space
Council to fund an Operations Wild Lands (OWL) wetlands
restoration program at Greentree Park.
The Open Space Council’s OWL program represents a partnership
among many organizations, including the City of Kirkwood
Department of Parks & Recreation, Area Resources for Community
and Human Services (ARCHS), the Meramec River Recreation
Association, the Missouri Department of Conservation and the
Missouri Parks Association. Working together, these
organizations will compile baseline information on biodiversity,
conduct restoration workdays in the park and involve
neighborhood children in field-based watershed education. The
grant-funded project is expected to be substantially complete by
the end of 2007. American Water’s environmental grants support
innovative, community-based environmental projects that improve,
restore, and protect watersheds and community water supplies
through partnerships. The wetlands restoration project at
Greentree Park is included in the Parks & Recreation
department’s master plan.
