Grant will fund Operation Wild Lands (OWL) project in Kirkwood’s
Greentree Park.
St. Louis
County, Mo. (June 27, 2007)
Missouri American Water has awarded a $5,000 environmental grant
to The Open Space Council to fund an Operation Wild Lands (OWL)
wetlands restoration program in the City of Kirkwood’s Greentree
Park.
The Open Space Council’s OWL
program represents a partnership among many organizations,
including the City of Kirkwood Department of Parks and
Recreation, Area Resources for Community and Human Services (ARCHS),
the Meramec River Recreation Association, the Missouri
Department of Conservation and the Missouri Parks Association.
Working together, these organizations will compile baseline
information on biodiversity, conduct restoration workdays in the
park and involve neighborhood children in field-based watershed
education. The grant-funded project is expected to be
substantially complete by the end of 2007.
American Water’s environmental grant program supports
innovative, community-based environmental projects that improve,
restore and protect watersheds and community water supplies
through partnerships. The program began in 2007, based on a
successful pilot program in 2006.
